Ponies pastured on derelict land, Brierley Hill

Cleanroom suit found on the street

Like the photographs of ships and factories, photographs of horses on derelict land are useful in framing certain questions, and telling certain stories. These two horses live on contaminated land that has also been declared a special habitat, partly because of the meadowlife that has developed in conjunction with the horses. So the horses have something to do with keeping the land derelict, but if we ask why the horses are there in the first place, we find that one reason was that the land is derelict, was not in demand for redevelopment, and as such was available as pasture. But there are additional reasons for the horses' presence.
